Completed Series & One-offs

All drama series that Matt has written or co-written have been recommissioned for subsequent seasons - a strike rate of 100%. His first writing project for TV was Quentin Blake's Clown, a one-off animation, which aired on Christmas Day on Channel 4 in the UK in 2020. It was produced by Eagle Eye Drama and was voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter.

Patience - Season 1

Matt was lead writer on this six-part crime procedural, which premiered in January 2025. The series attracted an average UK audience of 4.1 million across its run making it Channel 4's most successful launch since January 2021. The series, adapted from French drama, Astrid et Raphaelle, stars Laura Fraser as Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf, who befriends a young autistic woman, Patience Evans, played by Ella Maisy Purvis. The series is set in Matt's home city of York and was filmed there and in Belgium. It is produced by Eagle Eye Drama in association with Happy Duck Films and in partnership with PBS Distribution and Beta Film, and has been commissioned for a second 8-part series to air in 2026.

Hotel Portofino

Seasons 1, 2 & 3

Matt is the creator and writer of three series of this period drama, which premiered on BritBox in the UK in January 2022 and aired on ITV 1 in February 2023. Produced by Eagle Eye Drama and starring Natascha McElhone, the series has been a ratings and streaming hit for international broadcasters, including PBS in the USA, Foxtel in Australia, Sky Italia and RAI Uno in Italy and across Scandinavia.

Professor T - Seasons 1 & 2

Matt was co-writer and adaptor for the first series of Professor T, which aired on ITV 1 in the UK in 2021, and was produced by Eagle Eye Drama and Caviar. He was sole writer and adaptor on the second series, premiering in 2022. Starring Ben Miller, Frances de la Tour and Juliet Stevenson, the series has sold worldwide to more than 120 countries. It is adapated from a Belgian show of the same name.

Before We Die

Seasons 1 & 2

Matt was writer and adaptor for the first series of Before We Die, which was adapted from a Swedish series and premiered on Channel 4 in the UK in March 2021, and co-writer for the second series, premiering in June 2023. Both series were produced by Eagle Eye Drama and Caviar and starred Lesley Sharp. Before We Die is one of Channel 4's most watched drama series of all time.

Season 1

Matt was writer and adaptor for the first series, which aired on Channel 4 in the UK in June 2022 and was produced by Eagle Eye Drama. Starring James Nesbitt, Joely Richardson, Niamh Algar, Antonia Thomas, Sacha Dhawan, Sam Heughan, Richard E Grant, Anne Marie-Duff and Ben Miller, the series was re-commissioned for a second season, which aired internationally in 2024.
